Eden needs your help...
After more than 10 years of focussing on the business and trying my best to keep things running after my breast cancer diagnosis in August last year, it is now time to focus on my health and recovery. I need to step back from the business completely to do this.
I am looking for someone (possibly more than one person) to take over my shares in the business (51%). There is also an option to take on the whole business if desired.
If you are interested or know someone who is interested, please get in touch by the end of March.
I really want to see Eden carry on with-out me in capable hands and hope we can make that happen.
*I have let all my staff know my intentions.

Covid-19
Update 01.09.2021
We are closed today due to staff isolating. We are hoping to reopen on Thursday 2nd September proving other staff member's PCR test results come back negative. We're exercising an abundance of caution, over and above the latest government guidance, as we do not want anyone to become ill through not doing everything we can to protect people.
Update 17.05.2021
From Monday 17th May we can now have customers seated indoors as well as outdoors.
Government regulations require us to ask all seated customers, over the age of 16, to individually 'check in' using the NHS Covid-19 app or to register their details using our secure COVID-19 Visitors Register.
This is a legal requirement, if we do not ensure you have checked in using the app or left your details with us we can be fined up to £10,000.
Customers are asked to please wear a mask (unless exempt) until you are seated and when you are moving around the café.
We are operating table service, please se a member of staff to be seated. We are not taking bookings.
Government guidelines mean that we need to ask customers to not move between tables please once seated and to keep children with you at all times.
Please follow information signs and staff guidance when you visit us. We appreciate you helping us to continue to be a "COVID Secure" place and to adhere to goverment rules.
We look forward to welcoming you back!

Update 05.01.2021
We will now be closed for at least 2 weeks.
We have made the decision after the Prime Minister's announcement on Monday evening, a very quiet day at the cafe today, as well as the announcement of new funding being made available today.
We feel the safest thing for our staff and customers is to close for now. We are all being asked to stay at home unless absolutely essential trips are required.
With funding being provided, this means we can cover our basic costs and also pay the 2 staff we have who are not currently eligible for furlough for up to 1 month.
Hopefully improvements will be seen in the next few weeks with the national lockdown and we will be able to look at re-opening in a limited capacity.
We appreciate the supportive messages from people and we hope to see you all again soon.
Stay safe everyone. x

We have decided to reopen for takeaway only on Thursday 11th June.

Temporary Closure due to Covid-19 pandemic
20/03/2020
We are currently closed until further notice as per Government guidance.
Fortunately most of our staff qualified for the Job Retention Scheme and are on Furlough.
We are currently operating an online shop with delivery and collection options for some items.
We are not currently doing food or drinks made to order for delivery/takeaway currently due to staff being on furlough and unable to work for us as a condition of that.
We are keeping a close eye on news, Government updates etc for guidance on how we may need to operate when we are able to open. We will advise our customers via our website, social media, tripadvisor, google etc when we are able to set a date to reopen.
Thank you to all our customers, friends and family, Will at West Ox District Council and our awesome landlord for their support.
And a special thanks to our poor accountant for dealing with all the furlough stuff for us!
Stay safe everyone! Wash those hands and stay in if you don't have to be out. 💚Becs

2019 New Year's Resolution
As you may already know, most of what we have always done here at Eden Café is vegan and gluten free. We have made the transition to fully vegan from the start of this year.
Do we expect everyone to go vegan because we are cutting out dairy from our menu?
No, we understand what we eat and how we live our lives is a personal choice. All we are asking is that you consider switching to a plant-based alternative in your coffee or toastie when you come to our café and to perhaps do some research yourself into veganism and how your food is produced.
We hope that we will continue to be as well supported as we have been since our beginning. We would be sad to lose anyone due to this change but we also understand that it’s your money to spend how you wish. If you cannot accept our decision to switch to fully plant based then please consider supporting another local independent business over a chain.
If you normally have cow’s milk we can recommend which of our plant-based alternatives would suit your regular hot drink.
Why are we doing this?
As a vegan myself I feel the moral and ethical need to align my business with my personal ethics. There are many reasons why people choose to go vegan, environmental, health and animal welfare being the main three. Personally, for me it was the animal welfare aspect that drove my decision. Recently there has been much focus in the media on the environmental issues we are facing as a planet and animal agriculture plays a huge part in that. There has also been mention in recent years about the links between processed meats such as bacon and sausages and cancer as well as many studies on reversing conditions such as diabetes with a plant-based diet.
What impact can you make choosing a vegan diet?
Well, you might be surprised! By going vegan for one month you can save 124,917 litres of water, 543kg of grain, 84 Sq.m of forest, 273kg of Co2 and the lives of 30 animals. (*statistic source: www.cowspiracy.com/facts). In a year you could save 1,519,823 litres of water, 6,607kg of grain, 1,022 Sq.m of forest, 3,322kg of Co2 and 365 animal lives. That is quite an impact that you as one individual can make. Also, did you know that over 40% of plastic waste in the ocean is related to fishing? Cutting down on non reusables such as straws and plastic bags is great but you can have an even greater positive impact by cutting out animal products.
If you would like more information on going vegan or the impacts of animal agriculture then please check out our website for more info and resources www.edencafe.kiwi/why-we-are-ditching-dairy. Links are also listed on the back of this page.
There is a huge amount of information online and I would encourage you to do your own research if you are interested in finding out more and if anyone wants to give vegan a go we are here to support you however we can. If you have no interest in anything vegan, that’s fine, we respect you.

2018 Extension
Tuesday 15th January, 2019
We closed for a few weeks over the Christmas and New Year period to finish off some work left from the extension over the summer. We've rearranged lots of behind the scenes stuff to allow us to work more efficiently, changed our till system to allow us to print order tickets to the kitchen as well as to the front counter area and also put up a few shelves, painted and added some coffee sacks to the wall in the extension which will hopefully improve the acoustics in there. Of course there is always more to be done!
We are very happy to be back open, especially as a completely vegan business now. We have some helpful info sheets to assist you in choosing a plant milk that will be most suited to you and the staff are happy to help with any questions or feel free to email Becs with any questions or queries.
We also have added a new milkshake, Lime Matcha - in honour of my Kiwi Homeland (the lime milkshake is a bit iconic there). We have a new fresh juice menu too.
The menu will be staying the same for now while we get familiar with the new set up and systems but we will be looking to make some additions over the Spring so if you have any suggestions of what you would like to see on the menu then get in touch!
Thank you everyone who has been so supportive and encouraging of our transition to fully plant based. It's always scary making big changes to your business, so knowing we have so much fantastic support really is heart warming. x

Got the sign off from Building Control on Friday so some late night cleaning and we were ready to open up our new seating area on Saturday morning!
We still have some work left to do on the kitchen, office and bathroom as well as finishing off some decorative touches but we are finally open!

A few more jobs done but there's still more to be done! Most of which you can't see if you look in the window as it's all going on in the kitchen. We're hoping to have everything completed by this time next week but we will update further during the week.
Thank you everyone for your continued support!

Thursday 7th June
Well, we had our last donation dinner last night and what a great night it was! Thank you to everyone who came and to those who came to the previous ones. We will definitely have to make a regular thing of having some evening meals in the café.
We’ve made some good progress this week despite our DIY man Steve being away for a much deserved break.
The fire protection system has been installed and tested, the light fittings are up and tables and chairs have been arranged (and rearranged, and rearranged).
We’ve still got some work to finish off in the kitchen with the cooker hood needing to be installed as well as a few other jobs before building control can come and inspect and (hopefully) sign off. Our planning application for ‘change of use’ to A3 is in too.
Sabrena, my awesome Kiwi friend (who lives in Toronto) has been busy whipping up some cool designs for our rewards cups, tees and tote bags so those will shortly be ordered and sent out to our supporters. We’ll be taking orders for the rewards for another week or so before we finalise numbers so get in quick!
Here’s a few pics from today’s rearranging.

Wednesday 17th May
It's been a little while since our last update as we've been busy doing lots of paperwork and planning for both Building Control and Planning to ensure we meet all the requirements with the changes we are making to the cafe and to ensure you are all as safe as possible when you visit us.
There are lots of costs involved with all of this, so the donations we have received so far have been much appreciated!
Our total costs so far are in the region of £20,000-£25,000, we have raised £3,380 so far which works out to be £2,860 after cost of rewards and fees and taxes etc have been taken off.
We are looking to hold another fundraising dinner on the 6th of June so if you would like to come please get in touch. Kate has done a fantastic job with the last two dinners and has kindly offered to do a third.
We are so lucky to have such amazing support from our lovely customers and friends, it honestly keeps us going in the face of the many challenges that continue to pop up.
Speaking of lovely people, Vicky from Sugar Oh Honey Honey has donated some of her lovely jewellery which she custom made just for us to help with raising funds. They're available in the cafe and you can see some pics of a few pieces in the gallery below. She is also a local independent business so please support her and check out her other work at www.sugarohhoneyhoney.com.

Sunday 21st April
Our second dinner on the 3rd of May is now booked up, if you'd like to go on the waiting list please email us.
So far to date we have raised approximately £2250 (before accounting for cost of rewards purchased, fees etc).
We are very grateful to everyone who has contributed so far and who has offered us kind words of support.
